Rick Rainey

Born and raised in Bristol Rhode Island. Attended local schools and played various sports. Graduated with a G.E.D. after leaving high school at 17, to enlist in the Navy.

Commenced my Naval duty in  March of 1975. Attending bootcamp in sunny Orlando Florida. 
Proceeded to Machinists Mate A school, after basic training, at N.T.C. Great Lakes.  
Received orders to my first command, USS Midway CV41, home ported in Yokosuka Japan, in September 1975. Was advanced to MM2, in October 1977. After 27 months, doing various engineering duties, received orders to USS Blue Ridge LCC19, out of San Diego in 1978. Reported on board as an MM2. Transferred to USS Vancouver LPD2 in January 1979. Served out my required 5 years sea duty, before receiving orders to SIMA San Diego for 2 years shore duty. While there, was assigned as Turbine shop planner then moved to night shift supervisor after advancement to MM1.
Received orders to my last command,  USS Waddell DDG24, in 1982. Served as #1 Engine Room (Main Control) supervisor and Leading Machinists Mate for M Division, during my 5 year tenure and eventual departure from the Navy after 12 years.

Emigrated to Perth in 1987 where I worked for various companies until I settled with the Government Railways for 25 years prior to retirement.
Retired from permanent work, but do volunteer duties with St John as a community transport driver a couple days a week.
Married to an awesome Kiwi and between us we have 7 kids and 16 grandkids to keep us on our toes.
